Kuringen Bryggehotell is a hidden gem that cannot be seen from the road.
The view that meets you down by the sea is formidable. - A place for recreation and soulfulness, many would say.
The name "kure" comes from the term "å kure", which means to lie still. The small bay is well shielded from the weather, and in addition we are of course also concerned that you will find the longed-for calm.
Here you are welcomed with open arms, and a desire to make your stay as good as possible. - Memorable and unique.
Kuringen Bryggehotell is a place where all generations are welcome. A place where you can be together and just enjoy, the place itself and the wonderful food and nature around us.
Originally, Kuringen Bryggehotell is an old rockfish pier from 1885, with its walls full of history. In 1992, the father of Ellen, Steinar Thorvaldsen, bought what was then a dilapidated pier, with the idea that this would be the family's new resort. However, it turned out not quite as he had planned. The dream of a small bar and restaurant took shape, and Aquarius Brygge opened its doors in 2000.
19 years participated in carpentry, rehabilitation and operational responsibility, before Steinar retired in 2011.
Managing Director Ellen Thorvaldsen and chef Oliver Zaulich took over the operation and the property in 2015, and then renamed the place to Kuringen Bryggehotell. Oliver, who grew up in the German Alps in Garmisch PartenKirchen and Füssen, even comes from a restaurant family and started in the industry as a youngster. Ellen grew up in Trondheim, and started her education in television production, in Norway and the United States. Coincidences, on the other hand, led her to start working in tourism and commerce, and it was in the context of her job that she met Oliver on the westcoast of Norway in 1996.
Ellen and Oliver's ambition is to create a place that they would like to visti themselves. The couple loves to travel and visit small, unique hotels and places. For each journey, new inspiration is taken home, creating the foundation for new exciting ideas and projects.
The development work at Kuringen started for full in 2016. Following an extensive construction process, with restoration and reconstruction, today Kuringen Bryggehotell appears as a modern hotel with a proud history.
